Amplifies sounds to the ear by a factor 1-5 decibels using Parabolic Ear Cupping.  The higher frequencies are noticeably louder so the "Treble" range is clear.

AmpEars

Amplifies sounds to the ear by a factor 1-5 decibels depending upon the frequency.  This amplifies the higher frequencies so the "Treble" range is clear.   This is shown in the Amplification Frequency Spectrum with AmpEars.  0 dBA implies no amplification, while 3 dBA implies double the sound amplitude.

Pros:

  • Use in concerts, lectures or any venue (even watching tv) where experience sound is attenuated.
  • The design is meant to be light weight, breathable and simple to use. 
  • Multiple ways to wear

Cons:

  • Prototype
  • It is not the most aesthetically pleasing design, but functionally does amplify when correctly fitted. 
  • This is an early design so it may not fit all, but your feedback is always welcomed and appreciated.

Math Behind:

Simply using Parabolic math (focal=10mm, Radius = 50mm, Height=62.5mm, focal=(Radius)^2/4Height).  The goal is to keep costs down so it's easier to purchase from here then to build your own.  Looking to share design details for learning and improving through competition.  See documentation here.

How to Wear:

As of this writing, there are several ways to wear this.  The video below shows the various ways. 

  • Quickstart.  The Packaged way is to use the band attached to the ear cups so the band is below the head.  It's easier to attach and can be a bit more discrete?
  • Glasses.  The other way is to attach directly to your glasses.  Make sure the cups hug the back of the ear so your ear canal is at the focal point of the paraboloid cups.  That is, make sure the ear canal is about 10mm or 3/8" from the back of the cup. 
  • Top.  Alternatively, attach the band from the top of the head or
  • Forehead.  from the forehead.

Regardless of attachment, make sure the Paraboloid ear cups are attached snuggly behind and around the ear such that the focal point (10mm or ~3/8") is at the ear canal.
